( after a rough night, gwen wakes up to room service — a tray full of fluffy pancakes with salted maple butter and a canister of canadian syrup. orange juice, a latte, and a bottle of water balance beside the plate, along with two asprins in a draw string bag. it comes signed with a note: )

Drink all the water. I'll know if you don't.

[ Gwen doesn’t really sleep. Or—she drifts, she guesses, on the couch in Silco’s office, where he was kind enough to let her crash after finishing most of a bottle of Fireball by herself.

At some point mid-morning, she makes the walk of shame back to her room to at least brush her teeth and change her clothes, and finds the tray after her shower. She’s famished, despite a twin feeling of nausea, and finishes all of it; and then feels sick again, lying back on her pillow with wet hair and the shades drawn, a hand over her eyes after she sends this text. ]

Thank you, Ash. For the pancakes.

I’m pretty embarrassed. And I think I’m still a little drunk?

Don't be embarrassed, honey. It's far from the first time someone's gotten drunk. Take it easy on yourself today. Did you drink the water?

It’s—the first time for me, actually. Getting drunk.

Or more than tipsy. I think I’m good on alcohol for the rest of the year.

But yeah, I did. 💙 Could probably do 2 more bottles while I hide in bed forever.

Memorable first times, huh? The first time I got drunk, it was with Embry and all the other soldiers in my platoon, overseas. I have glimpses of a strip-iteration of Miracles Happen by Myra that keeps me up at night, sometimes. I can bring some, if you're taking visitors. I don't want you to be alone.
